GOALS FOR 2007
- Introduction of four state bills addressing:
a. Increasing oversight of CPUC on conservation programs
b. Amendment of existing law on prohibition of new nuclear plants
c. Intervenor funding for participation in the Energy Comm process
d. Statement on proposed transport of 40% of nation’s high-level radioactive waste through California. - Educational forums and outreach in Fresno on the newly announced interest in a new nuclear reactor and radioactive waste “recycling” plant.
- Participation in statewide League of Women Voters conference in Spring
- Outreach to cities and counties most heavily dependent on revenue from reactor utilities to encourage participation in Energy Commission analysis on the full costs, benefits and risks of the state’s continued reliance on aging nuclear plants beyond current licenses.
- Community forums in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Orange and San Diego counties on nuclear issues.
- Increased joint participation with National Sierra Club Radiation Committee on federal issues relating to new nuclear plants and permanent disposal of highly radioactive waste.
- Continued joint filings with reactor communities across the nation on matters before the NRC and Congress.
