Attorneys General Signed a Letter to Support Security

California Attorney General joins 6 others in Calling for Security Enhancements at Nuclear Facilities

In January 2005, seven Attorneys General sent a letter of support for a recent petition filed to increase security at our nation's nuclear facilities. The Comments filed concluded "For the reasons set out above, the undersigned respectfully urge the NRC to amend 10 CFR Section 73.1 (a) (1) to require nuclear power plant owners to prepare to repel air, water, or land assaults by a group at least as large as the 19 terrorists who actied on 9/11, attacking at more than one point at the same time and using appropriate weapons, means of sabotage and vehicles."

Demands for increased security from reactor communities have been voiced since licensing began in the 1970's, but gained new vigor after the tragic events of 9/11/01.
