Settlement brings ratepayer relief for San Onofre Closure Fiasco

SETTLEMENT REACHED BRINGING CLOSURE AND REFLIEF FOR RATEPAYERS IN THE SHUTDOWN OF THE SAN ONOFRE NUCLEAR PLANT

A settlement agreement was filed today, bringing financial relief and closure to the long-standing dispute over responsibility for the early shutdown of the San Onofre Nuclear Plant in June 2013.

The Alliance for Nuclear Responsibility’s (A4NR) refusal to sign the suspect 2014 Agreement proved prescient, as subsequent revelations of backroom dealing and a lack of transparency emerged, clouding the earlier proceedings.

In the settlement filed today, A4NR and a diverse group of ratepayer watchdogs negotiated an $873 million dollar reduction in rates for SCE and SDG&E customers. Years of diligent work have led to a hard-fought win for California’s ratepayers. The settlement will require approval from the full California Public Utilities Commission, and all parties are hopeful for a confirmatory decision.
