Video Highlights of Diablo Canyon Independent Safety Committee Meeting, February 4, 2015

The following video excerpts from the day-long meeting of the Diablo Canyon Independent Safety Committee highlight issues of concern to the Alliance for Nuclear Responsibility.

The clip below recaps discussion of Seismic issues:

Alliance for Nuclear Responsibility attorney John Geesman informs the Diablo Canyon Independent Safety Committee (DCISC) of a newly revealed and significantly revised hazard sensitivity “tornado” diagram representing increased “unknowns” at the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant.  This “new” information was presented in January 2015 to the CPUC’s Independent Peer Review Panel (IPRP) for PG&E’s seismic studies, and differs from what was shown to the DCISC in October 2014.

David Weisman of the Alliance for Nuclear Responsibility questions the Diablo Canyon Independent Safety Committee about the timing of their review of the newly un-redacted tsunami study of Dr. Robert Sewell, which proposes greater tsunami hazards at the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant.

The Diablo Canyon Independent Safety Committee discusses the tsunami threat at the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant and the newly un-redacted tsunami study by Dr. Robert Sewell, which considers potentially greater hazard than previously estimated.  At 7 minutes 25 seconds, DCISC member Dr. Peter Lam praises the Alliance for bringing this study to the public’s attention.  John Geesman, attorney for the Alliance for Nuclear Responsibility concludes.

This clip includes discussion of the concept of “Load Following” for Diablo Canyon (operating the reactor at lower power levels at times of decreased demand) and a study by AREVA that has been withheld from public distribution.

This clip features A4NR attorney John Geesman explaining the ongoing open proceedings before the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board of the NRC as it relates to the relicensing application of Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant.
